About Acrisure Stadium
Heinz Field
Pittsburgh is a city steeped in history and a welcoming metropolis that offers a wide range of activities and unique points of interest such as Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, Mount Washington, Carnegie Museum of Natural History, and Andy Warhol Museum. To all sports enthusiasts, Pittsburgh offers Heinz Field, home to NFL’s Steelers and Panthers.
The History of Heinz Field
The Heinz Field opened its doors on August 18, 2001, in the North Shore area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The venue became the Steelers' new home after the demolition of Three Rivers Stadium. The field was named after the H. J. Heinz Company, the company that created Heinz 57.
The first official game ever played at the Heinz Field was a matchup between the Pittsburgh Panthers and East Tennessee State on September 1, 2001. However, the Steelers got their cleats dirty first, during a pre-season game against the Detroit Lions on August 25. The game was, of course, won by the Steelers who christened the stadium and boosted fan and players morale for the season.
Ever since 2001, Heinz Field has hosted many sporting events such as the NHL Winter Classic between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Capitals in January 2011 and the soccer game between Manchester City and A.C. Milan in July 2014.
What’s So Special About Heinz Field?
On September 8, 2013, Heinz Field earned the record title for the quickest score in NFL history, after the Steelers scored a safety one second into the Steelers-Titans game. Records aside, Heinz Field is an impressive stadium that can accommodate 68,400 fans and 400 eateries. It was also home to the largest JumboTron scoreboard in all the NFL.
