About Alaska Airlines Arena
Alaska Airlines Arena
The Alaska Airlines Arena at the Hec Edmundson Pavilion, better known as just the Alaska Airlines Arena, Hec Edmundson, or even just Hec Ed, sure has a slew of names. Yet it’s still one of the best places to go if you’re looking for collegiate sports action in Seattle. Located right on the University of Washington campus, this 10,000-seat indoor arena has been hosting college sports for almost a century.
History of Alaska Airlines Arena
Originally built in 1927 as a multipurpose fieldhouse, this venue was originally known simply as the University of Washington Pavilion and had a dirt floor and glass skylights. Years later it would receive a number of improvements and renovations (not to mention name changes!) to bring it in line with more modern sports complexes. Sadly, after a windstorm knocked a glass pane loose and almost killed a couple of spectators, that particular design element was permanently removed!
What Makes Alaska Airlines Arena Events So Special?
The Alaska Airlines Arena has come a long way since its beginnings as a dirt floor fieldhouse. Today, thanks to all those expensive and expansive renovations, this indoor arena has thoroughly updated amenities for athletes, students, and fans alike, and even includes a Hall of Fame section to honor Huskies players of years past. This indoor arena blows your old college’s little dinky sports facilities right out of the water!
