About BC Place Stadium
BC Place
Located in the Great White North, Vancouver’s BC Place is a multi-purpose stadium with an enclosed roof and a capacity of more than 50,000. The venue is situated right on the north side of False Creek. It featured an air-supported roof, the largest of its kind when it first opened its doors, but this has since been replaced with a retractable one after recent renovations.
The History of BC Place
BC Place opened its doors for the first time in 1983 in preparation for the 1986 World Fair that had been scheduled in Vancouver, which saw it used as a venue for that event before going back to hosting soccer and Canadian football teams. BC Place would go on to serve as a venue for decades without incident until 2007 when snow and ice accumulation caused a roof deflation when a panel ruptured. The panel was replaced as a temporary fix but would go on to be completely replaced with a retractable one in 2008 as part of a complete overhaul and renovation of BC Place.
What’s So Special About BC Place Events?
The post-renovation life of BC Place has been absolutely phenomenal. Not only did it bring this aging stadium up to date with modern amenities, but it’s also won half a dozen design and engineering awards as well. Widened, refurbished concourses, all-new HD scoreboards, and ribbon boards, wider seats, handicapped-accessible washrooms – you name it, the new BC Place has it.
