About Haas Pavilion

Haas Pavilion

Haas Pavilion is an indoor sports and entertainment venue that’s located on the University of California-Berkeley campus in Berkeley, California. The venue serves as the home for the Cal basketball, volleyball, and gymnastics teams. The arena opened in 1933 as the Men’s Gym but was later renamed Harmon Gym. After extensive renovations from 1997 to 1999, the venue was renamed Haas Pavilion after Walter Haas, who donated a significant amount of money to pay for the renovations. For basketball games and other events, Haas Pavilion currently has a capacity of over 11,800 fans.

Where are the Best Places to Sit at Haas Pavilion

Haas Pavilion offers premium bench seating around a significant part of the court. These are the best seats for getting as close to the action as possible. Other than those premium seats, sections 1-3 and 15-17 will have the best view of the court. Most of the seats in these sections also have chair backs, even though most of the seats in the arena don’t. Just be aware that sections 15-17 will be behind students while sections 1-3 are on the side of the team benches.

Tips for Visiting Haas Pavilion

Parking is difficult around the Berkeley campus, so fans should be encouraged to take the BART train system. The BART station in Berkeley is a 10-15 walk from campus and will give visitors a chance to take a self-guided tour of the campus if they arrive a little early. The campus is rich with history, most notably Sather Gate, the site of many important political rallies. Meanwhile, the concourse at Haas Pavilion pays homage to the history of Cal basketball, including a statue of legendary coach Pete Newell.

Food to Try at Haas Pavilion

The concourse at Haas Pavilion features many concession stands that all offer something unique. In addition to all of the classic items at sports venues, guests will find a Southwester chicken wrap, Polish sausage, Italian sausage, smoked bratwurst, a mesquite turkey sandwich, and waffle fries. There is also a special Western bacon cheeseburger and red hot & blue cheese fries available at the Golden Bear Grill. Fans will also be able to find a pizza kiosk, popcorn kiosk, cheesesteak sandwich, and even a boba tea stand.
