About Kings Theatre

Kings Theatre

The Kings Theatre is a performance venue in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn in New York City. It’s primarily used for concerts but can be adapted for other types of performances. The venue originally opened in 1929 as a movie theater but closed in 1977. A massive renovation project began in 2010, allowing the Kings Theatre to reopen in 2015 as a live-entertainment venue with Diana Ross giving the first performance. In 2012, the Kings Theatre was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places despite not being a functioning theater at that time. Today, performances at the Kings Theatre have a capacity of 3,000 people.

Where are the Best Places to Sit at the Kings Theatre

There is a pit area at the Kings Theatre that can get visitors as close to the stage as possible. Outside of that area, section 2 is the best place to sit, as it’s close to the stage and has a straight-ahead view. Likewise, section 6 has a direct view of the stage but is a little further back. In the balcony, sections 12 and 13 will provide the best view of the performer.

Tips for Visiting the Kings Theatre

Taking public transportation or a ride-sharing service is encouraged when visiting the Kings Theatre. There is no central parking area, and even street parking is limited. It’s also a good idea to arrive early for a show at the Kings Theatre. As mentioned, it’s an old theater with a lot of history. Walking inside is like going back in time, so you don’t want to feel rushed when going through the lobby on the way to your seat. In fact, tours of the Kings Theatre are available and appealing to anyone with an interest in history, architecture, or theater.

Food to Try at the Kings Theatre

The Kings Theatre has bars on every floor of the venue, offering beer, wine, and cocktails. However, the food selection is limited to select candies, popcorn, and trail mix. If you are hoping to eat a full meal, plan on doing that either before or after the show. Fortunately, there is a diverse array of restaurants in the neighborhood surrounding the Kings Theatre. It’s possible to find French, Japanese, Caribbean, Mediterranean, Mexican, Thai, and American cuisine a short distance from the venue.
