About Moda Center

Moda Center

Ah, Portland. One of the true treasures of the Pacific Northwest. The Moda Center, located just a stone’s throw from the Willamette River, is the jewel in Portland’s crown, hosting sports matchups, concerts, and other events for decades. There’s nothing quite like it, especially in a city that’s not quite like anywhere else.

The History of the Moda Center

The Moda Center was built in 2015, primarily so that the Portland Trail Blazers would have a place to play. The NBA team’s former digs, the Memorial Coliseum, only had about 12,000 seats, and the Blazers had sold out 600 games straight since 1977 – it was time for a bigger venue.

Well instead of knocking the old coliseum down, a new, state-of-the-art indoor arena was financed and built The old venue is still used for smaller events, but nothing beats the brand-new Moda Center for amenities and style.

What Makes the Moda Center so Special?

The Moda Center is brand-spanking new, and the amenities of this indoor, multi-use arena and it’s 20,000-seat capacity are easily overwhelming. A massive video scoreboard (one of the biggest in the NBA) keeps you in the action, and one of the weirder but much-appreciated features is the “acoustical cloud” that re-creates the sounds, like the roar of the crowd, that you would hear at Blazers games when they were still being held next door. The Moda Center combines the best of both worlds, making Trail Blazer fans feel at home even while attending games in this marvel of modern engineering. You’ve got to check it out for yourself!
