About Pauley Pavilion

Pauley Pavilion

Don’t let its amphitheater-like name fool you: the Pauley Pavilion, located on the UCLA campus in Los Angeles, is a classic mixed-use indoor stadium that’s been the home of collegiate sports at the college for decades. Hot off its latest renovation in 2012, this venue, which hosts both basketball, volleyball, and other events is in some of the best shape in its 50-plus-year lifetime!

The History of Pauley Pavilion

Opened in June of 1965 with a capacity of 12,829, Pauley Pavilion was named for Edwin W. Pauley, a University of California Regent who was responsible for a major portion of fundraising for the new venue. Previous to the venue’s construction, sports teams for the school had the unfortunate luck of being hosted inside a tiny 2,700-seat capacity gym that was so unbearably stuffy it became known as the Body Odor Barn, making the new Pavilion a major upgrade for all involved!

As the Pavilion was feeling its age in the late 2000s, plans for a major overhaul were drawn up. The refurb took place in 2012, thoroughly modernizing the venue and increasing its total capacity to 13,800 to better accommodate modern audiences. Today, Pauley Pavilion is still used exclusively by UCLA for all sorts of team sports and other collegiate events.

What’s So Special About Pauley Pavilion Events?

Pauley Pavilion is so much more than your typical sweaty college sports venue. The Bruins have a long history of showing off their stuff for decades, making the Pavilion a choice stadium for anyone who’s a fan of collegiate sports. Throw in the concert events hosted there and you’ve got a recipe for success!
