About Progressive Field

Progressive Field

Ohio: the little state that has some big claims to fame. Did you know the most NASA astronauts have come from Ohio than any state? But there’s more that makes Ohio great, especially when it comes to pro sports. Progressive Field, the home of the Cleveland Guardians, is another great reason to visit Ohio!

History of Progressive Field

Originally known as Jacobs Field when it opened in 1994, this open-air ballpark was built to replace Cleveland Stadium so the Guardians wouldn’t have to share a venue with the Browns anymore. Progressive bought naming rights in 2008, but the old name has been hard to shake; in fact, many hardcore Guardians fans will still call Progressive Field “The Jake” in honor of its original name.

Whatever it’s called, Progressive Field has been a major boon for the Guardians’ fortunes. Since they moved, the team has won 10 Central Division titles and hosted the playoffs 11 different times. Whatever mojo this place has, it’s really rubbing off!

What Makes Progressive Field Events So Special?

First and foremost, Progressive Field is the ballpark that made the Guardians stand out. Second, even though it was built in 1994 the stadium has undergone extensive renovations over the years to keep up with the Joneses, making it a fun and comfortable place to catch a game.
