About Reser Stadium
Reser Stadium
Located less than a hundred miles south of Portland on the campus of Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon, Reser Stadium is a 43,000-seat capacity open-air athletic stadium that’s been the best place to catch OSU football since the 1950s.
History of Reser Stadium
Construction began on Reser Stadium, then known as Parker Stadium in honor of Charles T. Parker, an alum that successfully raised most of the money needed for the venue, in 1952. It opened its doors for the first time just one year later with a capacity of 28,000. This open-air venue would almost double its original seating over the decades, thanks to regular renovations and updating. The latest rounds of renovations, occurring in 2005, thoroughly modernized the stadium, also adding a new auditorium, coaches offices, team room, locker room, rehab facilities, and a hall of fame.
In 1999, the stadium was renamed Reser Stadium in honor of Al and Pat Reser, the couple who own Reser’s Fine Foods, graduates of OSU themselves, and philanthropists who have donated heavily to the school’s athletic departments. The plaza outside the stadium, a regular site for pregame activities, retained its name as Parker Plaza.
What Makes Reser Stadium Events So Special?
Reser Stadium isn’t the biggest college football stadium out there. It’s not the oldest with the most history, and it’s not the newest with the most cutting-edge amenities. What it does have, though, is character and attitude. Newly renovated grandstands provide great comfort, the relatively low capacity provides some real intimacy with fans and players alike, and it’s just a great, solid little venue no matter what you’re there for.
