About Toyota Pavilion at Concord
Concord Pavilion
Located on the eastern outskirts of Concord, California, just a quick jaunt from San Francisco, the Concord Pavilion is one outdoor amphitheater that’s been rocking hard – and probably longer than you’ve been born. This historic, legendary performance space has seen some of the biggest acts in the world grace its stage over the decades, and there are no signs that anything about this venue will change any time soon!
The History of Concord Pavilion
Built in 1975 and designed by legendary architects Frank Gehry and Peter Walker, the Concord Pavilion was a hit from the very beginning and has been attracting big-name stars to its stage steadily for decades – so much so that it expanded in 1995, with Gehry returning to draw up the new expansion plans, to accommodate a total of 12,500 music fans.
Despite its success, the venue has changed its name to the Chronicle Pavilion when the San Francisco Chronicle bought naming rights in 2000. It went through yet another change again in 2006 when a mattress company bought the naming rights, resulting in the unfortunate name of “Sleep Train Pavilion.” Luckily, the venue has since returned to its original name in the years since!
What Makes Concord Pavilion Events So Special?
With so much history behind it, taking in a show at Concord Pavilion is like rubbing shoulders with the greats. The timeless greatness of the venue’s design will take you back to the heyday of rock and roll like Bill and Ted’s time machine. Excellent!
