About Almost Acoustic Christmas
Almost Acoustic Christmas
California gets all the good festivals and concerts. There’s Coachella, Not So Silent Night, Taylor Swift’s Lover Fest – and hundreds more we don’t have time to name.
The one that most people forget about, or don’t mention in the list of the most famous shows, is KRQQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas. It gets left off the list because it’s around the holidays, and you know what that does to people’s brains. But that’s not to say it’s not well-attended or not well-respected. It’s been on the scene in one way or another since 1989. That’s more than 30 years of good music!
From Xmas Bash to Almost Acoustic Christmas
Way back in 1989, when the hair was puffy, and we were just learning about a little band named Nirvana, the concert that is now Almost Acoustic Christmas was called the Xmas Bash.
It was still the same idea – artists you love performing their music (with the occasional Christmas Carol thrown in), around Christmas time. It’s been held in a myriad of different venues over the years, though they’ve had to get bigger each time. The lineup has also gotten bigger. So much bigger, in fact, that starting in 1992 they’ve had to make it a two-day festival instead of a one-night-only event.
Stars Who’ve Performed
We’ll let the stars who are performing this year be a surprise, but past lineups have ranged from Alanis Morisette (1995) to Blink-182 (1998), to The Offspring (2003), to Muse (2009), and Cage the Elephant, more recently. And that’s a very small example of their past lineups. If you’re into vintage stuff, you can get recordings of theirs all on one CD. It includes the best parts of the shows between ’89 and 99. We’re expecting a new round-up release here soon.
