More Tyler Childers Information
For fans of good and honest, old-fashioned country music, there aren’t too many singers nowadays who are better than Tyler Childers. He’s a true gentleman of country music who sticks to the basics, is proud of his roots, and doesn’t try to be anything he isn’t. While there are more popular country artists, there aren’t many who are more genuine than Childers. He and his band, the Food Stamps, are for those who love pure country and bluegrass music and great storytelling.
Born for This
There’s no doubt that Childers was born to be a country and bluegrass singer. He grew up in the eastern part of Kentucky, not far from the West Virginia border. He first learned to sing from performing in his church choir and was the son of a coal miner. While Childers didn’t go into the coal mines himself, that kind of blue-collar work and his upbringing in Kentucky are frequent subjects in his songwriting. After all, Childers is a performer for whom words matter, as he likens songwriting to writing short stories about his life and upbringing.
Here to Stay
Childers released his first album when he was just 19. He was barely out of high school and worked odd jobs to support himself so he could pursue music. A decade later, it’s clear that he’s here to stay. His second album, Purgatory, was his first true success story. It was an instant hit on the Country Music Charts and helped earn him attention as one of the top up and coming artists in the country world.
Childers’ third album, Country Squire, took things to another level. The album’s second single “All Your’n” earned Childers a Grammy nomination for Best Country Solo Performance. It was a sign that he should be included on the list of the best country artists of today. Of course, always true to himself, Childers went in a different direction for his fourth album, Long Violent History, changing his tone and style while remaining faithful to his Kentucky roots.
