About BTS

BTS Tickets

Whether the Boy Band craze took a while to get to Korea or their version of the phenomenon took a while to go International – one thing’s for sure, BTS is here to stay. The Korean boy band, whose full group name is “Bangtan Sonyeondan”, in English letters, also goes by the Bangtang Boys. If you didn’t know, their Korean name stands for “The Bulletproof Boy Scouts” – which is quite the image.

They debuted in South Korea in 2013 but didn’t hit the international charts and teen hearts until a few years later. Now, people on all liveable continents are screaming their name – even though they can’t quite pronounce their lyrics.

A Different Type of Boy Band

While the Backstreet Boys and 90’s boy bands were pioneers of what it meant to be a group at that time, BTS is doing things a little differently. They aim to be not only an entertaining group but a socially conscious one as well. Their lyrics and show graphics allude to literary references and traditional Korean stories, as well as samples from famous tales around the world.

If The Beatles pioneered the British Invasion, BTS is leading the “Korean Wave”, which they first did when they went international in 2017. And though it seems strange, comparing them to the Beatles isn’t all that odd. Between 2018 and 2019, the band became the first since The Beatles to put out three number one albums, in just one year.

National Leaders and Influencers

In 2019, Time Magazine named the band as one of the “100 most influential people in the world” as well as “Next Generation Leaders”. It seems that young girls aren’t the only ones falling for this K-pop band charm after all…

Frequently Asked Questions

What is BTS music style?

Since their inception, BTS have developed and maintained a style of "fusion music" with an emphasis on hip hop as their musical base. Rather than wanting to stick to a specific genre, BTS have introduced new musical elements into their musical repertoire with each new album. BTS' sound began with old-school hip hop influences, which soon evolved to include R&B and rock with “Skool Luv Affair” and “Dark and Wild”.

With “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life” album, they introduced orchestral strings and electronic dance music, while “Wings” and “You Never Walk Alone” combined moombahton, neo-soul, and gospel genres. Finally, the “Love Yourself” album included new interesting styles such as future bass, Latin pop, and jazz hip hop.
