About Marco Antonio Solis

Marco Antonio Solis Tickets

Does the nickname “The Latin Beatles” ring a bell? How about the more personal nickname “El Buki”? If you’re a fan of Latin music and have been paying attention even a little in the last 25-30 years, it should. We’re referring to Marco Antonio Solis, of course, who was once part of the band “Los Bukis.” Though the group is no more, it wasn’t because they weren’t successful. They’re the band nicknamed the Latin Beatles, that we mentioned above. After splitting from Los Bukis, Solis decided to go solo. Was it the right decision?

Los Bukis & Los Mimos

Marco Antonio Solis isn’t new to the scene. His first band, Los Bukis, came on the scene in the 1970s. They released hit after hit, and their music is often played on Latin radio stations still today. When Los Bukis disbanded in 1996, Solis decided he’d had enough of the group life and wanted to strike out on his own. His bandmates decided they’d be fine without him and called their new Solis-less band, Los Mimos.

A Crossover Star

While the band Solis left behind did well enough in Latin markets, they didn’t cross over the way Marco did. After going solo in the late ’90s and early ’00s, he was declared Billboard’s Artist of the decade and even got his own Hollywood star.

Over his career, twelve of his different albums have reached number one on the charts, which is an almost impossible accomplishment. Part of his success is due to his talent as a songwriter. He’s written hits for himself, his past band, and for artists like Laura Flores and Enrique Iglesias. He’s had a fantastic career, though it’s likely he’ll retire soon. Make sure you see a show before he does!
