About Wiz Khalifa

Wiz Khalifa

Wiz wasn’t always a badass rapper covered in tattoos and famous for dating people like Amber Rose. He was born in a home just like any other, in the sparsely populated state of South Dakota. Born Cameron Jibril Thomas in 1987, he moved around a lot with his family. His father was in the military, which meant little Cameron spent a lot of time alone.

Not in a bad way, though. That time in a new place where he didn’t yet know anyone helped him discover his love for music. He was writing lyrics before he turned 10, though he wouldn’t record them until a few years later.

Prince of the City

After moving around, Cameron’s family settled in Pittsburg for his high school years. It was there that he began building his name as an artist. And in 2006, he released his first mixtape Prince of the City: Welcome to Pistolvania. It was only a year later that one of his songs, “Say Yeah,” got him on the charts, where he’d unknowingly go on to spend a lot of his time.

Black and Yellow

Cameron, who was now going by Wiz Khalifa, put out a 2010 song “Black and Yellow” to show his support for the Steelers. It blew up and was even played at the Superbowl, making it his most famous song to date. With that exposure, he put out albums O.N.I.F.C and Blacc Hollywood. Both had multiple songs chart.

Since his last album, he hasn’t been sitting idle. He’s often featured on tracks for different artists, even crossing genres by recording with Charlie Puth and Maroon 5. If you’re part of the Taylor Gang, and you know what that means, then you’re a true fan. And a true fan wouldn’t miss a Wiz Khalifa show in their city.
