About the Missouri Football

Missouri Football Tickets

While sometimes overlooked, the Missouri Tigers are undoubtedly an important part of college football history. The program has existed for well over 100 years, and yet, last-minute Missouri football tickets remain in high demand. Even if the Tigers don’t claim any national championships, they have a winning all-time record and a healthy amount of conference titles to their name. The program remains as popular as ever, which is why cheap Missouri football tickets can be hard to find in the Show-Me State.

In the Beginning

Harry Orman Robinson was the man who started it all, coaching the Tigers in the first two seasons in Missouri football history, leading the team to two Western Interstate University Football Association championships in 1893 and 1894. Of course, in 1907, Missouri would become part of the conference that would ultimately become the Big Eight, a critical league in the history of college football. The Tigers experienced plenty of success during the early years of the conference, winning six league championships between 1909 and 1927.

The Glory Days

The best days of Missouri football would start in the late 1930s under Don Faurot. He had two stints as Missouri’s head coach, covering 19 seasons and winning over 100 games and three conference championships. Faurot’s success eventually set the stage for Dan Devine, who led the Tigers from 1958 to 1970. The Tigers were a top-20 team for much of Devine’s tenure, including an undefeated season in 1960 that ended with an Orange Bowl victory and the program’s most recent conference championship in 1969.

The Big Stage

The late stages of the 20th century were not exactly a golden era of Missouri football. But after the turn of the century, Gary Pinkel put the Tigers back on the college football map, making them a perennial bowl team and a force in the Big 12. Pinkel raised the profile of the program so much that Missouri was invited to join the SEC in 2012. While the move to the SEC has increased the level of competition for the Tigers, it has put Missouri in the country’s best football conference, as the Tigers continue to play a notable role in the college football universe.
